Volunteers are needed to sort food, man the Emergency Food Helpline, help around the office and with special events.

The most immediate need for volunteers is with food sorting, particularly on the weekdays.

Backyard Garden Mentors

City Slicker Farms has a Backyard Garden Program which assists low-income West Oakland residents  with starting their own backyard gardens. Backyard Garden Mentors help residents create their gardens and provide periodic support to novice gardeners.

Seasoned gardeners who would like to volunteer to be a Backyard Garden Mentor, should contact Sarah at sarah@cityslickerfarms.org.




Cooking Matters

Cooking Matters is a program that helps teach people, with no or low income, how to eat, cook and shop for healthy food.  Share Our Strength prepared the Cooking Matters curriculum.

Food Runners work towards eliminating hunger in San Francisco.   Food that would otherwise go to waste is collected from various businesses by Food Runners.  The food is then delivered to programs that feed those in need.
