Farmers can donate their surplus crops by contacting the Food to Families program. Food to Families then distributes the crops to local food banks and pantries. In return, farmers can receive a tax credit for the produce they donate.
Community Harvest Project
Spiral Gardens' Community Harvest Project gathers extra fruit from trees in the community and from homeowners to share with those in need.
Forage Oakland
Forage Oakland is a project that helps redistribute fruit in the North Oakland area. If you would like to receive fruit, donate surplus fruit or help harvest contact Forage Oakland. [email protected]
Alameda Backyard Growers has a fruit gleaning program called Project Pick.
Project Pick has 3 ways for people with fruit trees to share excess fruit. Pick and deliver your own fruit to Alameda Food Bank; pick your own fruit and ask Alameda Backyard Growers to deliver your fruit; or have Alameda Backyard Growers pick and deliver your fruit to Alameda Food Bank. (For those who are physically unable to harvest their own fruit, Alameda Backyard Growers is willing to pick the fruit if half of the harvest can be donated to Alameda Food Bank.)
Call or email Alameda Backyard Growers for assistance or to volunteer.
