The Backyard Garden Program is a free program that helps West Oakland residents, with limited means, start their own backyard gardens. City Slicker Farms staff members test the soil, help create a garden plan and assist clients in planting the garden. For the following two years afterwards, a garden mentor is available who not only provides advice, but often times garden supplies as well.

Planting Justice offers a need-based subsidy application for low-income residents who would like to grow organic food for their families and neighbors. Please inquire about the backyard garden subsidy if you or someone you know are eligible.
